The Indianapolis Colts have one of the most intriguing position battles in the league when it comes to who will start for them at quarterback in 2025.

But after releasing the first unofficial depth chart ahead of the team’s first preseason game vs. the Baltimore Ravens, head coach Shane Steichen and Co. are keeping things pretty close to the vest.
On the Colts official website, every position group is listed in order from starters to backups except for at quarterback. Where QB1 is listed as “Daniel Jones OR Anthony Richardson Sr.,” followed by sixth-round pick Riley Leonard and undrafted second-year player Jason Bean.

Colts training camp hasn’t been without its misfortunes as veteran running back Salvon Ahmed reportedly suffered a “severe lower leg injury” at this weekend’s practice where his ankle “was stuck in an awkward position” after being hip-drop tackled by a teammate.
“Never want to see that happen,” Coach Steichen told reporters during his media availability. “I know we don’t encourage hip-drop tackles. I know Trey [Washington]’s down in the dumps, and I don’t think he’s trying to do that. We’re just trying to create an edge. … Those [backups] are going to have to tackle come preseason.”

Indianapolis opens exhibition play Thursday night on the NFL Network where they’ll try to set the tone on breaking the 9-8, 8-9 spell they’ve been under with Steichen in the fold.
It’ll be interesting to see who gets the bulk of the starters’ reps after Indy comes out of the tunnel at M&T Bank Stadium on Aug. 7. But it sounds like both will “play a good amount” once the ball kicks off.
