ROBBINSVILLE — (WLOS) Under the new NCHSAA realignment, Robbinsville remains in the 1A ranks. They’re continue on in the same conference, with a new coach.

“It’s been different, I have a good staff around me,” said Lucas Ford. Before taking the head coaching duties, Ford was the defensive coordinator for the Robbinsville Black Knights. “Got to coach under coach Walsh, learned a lot from him, it’s been a smooth transition.”

Walsh retired after last season with a 208-98 record. Ford embraces any and all wisdom coach Walsh has shown his way. “I talked to him a few days on my birthday when he called, he just wanted to know how things were going. You learn things from people you worked with in the past.”

For the better part of the last decade, coach Ford has been controller the defensive. As the leading man, he now holds concerns for all three phases of the game.

“It’s been different. I started my carrier on the offensive end of the ball. Getting back to the pass things, We’re doing some different things. A lot of things we’ve done in the past, different formations and stuff like that.”

Robbinsville first plays Tuscola to begin the season on the 22nd. They also have the first six out of seven first game of the season at home.

“We want to get better every week. We have a good mix of seniors,.”

“We’re a true 1A school. Our standard never changes, our goals never change. We’ve got 12 seniors on the roaster right now, we’re trying to develop leadership, top to bottom. We want to be where we want to be at the end of the season. In the playoff’s, fighting for a state championship. And these young men on our team becoming great young men in our community. This is a small community, a small town.”

The 22nd will be here before we know it, but by then, Robbinsville will have had their practice with and at East Henderson on the 15th. We’ll learn about ourselves a lot then.”
