The Denver Broncos will be bringing some familiar faces to California when they visit the San Francisco 49ers this week.
The Broncos will fly to San Fran on Wednesday ahead of a joint practice with the 49ers on Thursday and a preseason game on Saturday. 49ers fans will recognize at least four of Denver’s players — defensive lineman D.J. Jones and right tackle Mike McGlinchey, plus 2025 free agent additions linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Talanoa Hufanga. All four started their careers in San Francisco.

After players reported for the start of training camp last month, Hufanga joked that he was eager to start fights with his former teammates.
“Man, it’s going to be blessed,” Hufanga said of facing off against his old team. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity they gave me. My first four years there were special. I had a lot of great moments and a lot of moments of injuries as you talked about. For me, it was a special place in my heart.
“I always joke around [and] I’m going to tell Trent [Williams] that I’m going to start a fight with him just for fun. [He’s] probably the last person you guys want to fight. I’m going to tell you guys that right now, Trent Williams is not the one. All jokes aside, I’m very blessed and excited to be there.”
Hufanga, 25, played for the 49ers from 2021-2024, one a first-team All-Pro selection and a Pro Bowl nod in 2022, his last fully healthy season. After that, Hufanga missed seven games in 2023 and ten games in 2024. He’s healthy now and hoping to take his career to a new level in Denver. First things, first, a showdown with his old club is on deck.
