It’s not often a player gets another shot with the same team in as many weeks, but that’s the case for Equanimeous St. Brown. After being waived by the San Francisco 49ers on July 31, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the ex-New Orleans Saints wide receiver agreed to return to San Fran on Tuesday, Aug. 5. He had been let go to make room for another former Saints wideout, Marquez Callaway, but the 49ers moved on from Callaway after just a couple of practices. Now St. Brown is back in the building.

Good for him, even if St. Brown didn’t win over many fans during his brief time in New Orleans last summer; being the first guy to wear the No. 13 jersey so many associated with Michael Thomas didn’t do much to help his cause. But he gets a second chance with San Francisco, and there’s a possibility that St. Brown could get on the field when the Saints host the 49ers on Sept. 14. The Niners have had to work around injuries to superstar Brandon Aiyuk and second-year pro Ricky Pearsall this summer.

But could it be the Saints who need more firepower at wide receiver? Outside of the guys you expect to see big plays from, like Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, there hasn’t been much to write home about at Saints training camp. Brandin Cooks is a solid veteran but no the playmaker he once was. Mason Tipton is continuing to flash potential but it’s tough to buy his stock after such an underwhelming rookie year. We haven’t seen enough from second-year draft pick Bub Means, who hasn’t been able to leap ahead of journeymen like Cedrick Wilson Jr., Kevin Austin, and Dante Pettis. This group has a strong one-two punch, but the lack of depth behind them makes it look fragile.
