ASHBURN, Va. (7News) — The Washington Commanders’ offense is in a significantly different spot than it was a year ago at this time.

“Last year [at] this time, I don’t think we’d even named a starting quarterback yet,” offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury said Monday.

“We were always the underdog, and we could just kind of take our shot at people. This year, we got to be more consistent in how we do everything and I think that’s the biggest message I’m preaching.”

Thanks to the quick ascension of quarterback Jayden Daniels, Kingsbury doesn’t have to worry about that position in 2025. He doesn’t have to teach his offense or learn his players’ strengths, either, entering his second season in D.C.

Now, his biggest goal for the offense is to improve its game-over-game consistency. Kingsbury also wants to expand the offense and bring it to the next level.

“We got a bunch of really high IQ football guys that are back for a second year in this offense,” Kingsbury said. “I expect us to continue to get better and really be more detailed.”

As far as Daniels’ progression, Kingsbury said his quarterback looks very comfortable in the system, and is treating every practice as if it’s a real game situation.

Overall, Kingsbury is expecting big things from his group. But his message to the offense has been clear.

“Just making sure that we know that last year was last year and this year is a whole new year and a new group,” he said. “It’s going to be a tough schedule … keeping the standard the standard, that’s the biggest deal.”
