WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WVNS) – One thing has become increasingly clear for the Houston Texans as they continue their stay at the Greenbrier. Their defense could be one of the best in the NFL, maybe even better than they were in 2024.

The Texans finished in the top 10 in total defense, touting stars like Derek Stingley Jr., Will Anderson Jr., and Kamari Lassiter, among others. Their defense was a key component on their way to capturing a second AFC South first place finish in a row.
As they prepare for the 2025 NFL season, they have some new faces in the room. One notable addition is defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson, who won his first Super Bowl with the Eagles back in February.
“If you go to any side, we want it to be tough. So, they want to challenge Kamari – great. You want to challenge Stingley – great. We feel good about both of those guys being able to make a play versus any one-on-one matchup,” said Head Coach DeMeco Ryans.
Even though Coach Ryans is a defensive minded coach at heart, he said it will take everyone on the team – offense, defense, and special teams – to be successful week-in and week-out.

Tensions have begun to flare during practices between some Texan players. Any concerns, however, were dismissed by Coach Ryans.
“I am excited just to see these guys go play against someone else. It is that time of camp where it is going to be a little more chirpy. You are going to see fights and scuffles happening, but you get tired of hitting the same person. You get tired of going against the same schemes over and over again. So it is that time for us to go play a game,” said Coach Ryans.
