South Lafourche football’s 2024 season was as up-and-down as they come. Despite an uncharacteristic slow start, the Fighting Tarpons got hot as the weather cooled down.
But ultimately, it wasn’t enough to get back to the LHSAA playoffs. SLHS is looking for a return to postseason play, and it will need a stronger regular season in order to do so.

Despite making the playoffs in 2023, the Tarpons slumped to begin 2024. SLHS started the season 1-5, with all but one of those losses coming by at least 40 points and racked up a point differential of -179 heading into late October. However, the Tarpons turned it around down the stretch, winning three straight including a 77-point domination of Morgan City to make their record more respectable.
Still, SLHS returns much of that 2023 team in 2025, including starting quarterback Josh Mack and Terrance Pitre — who stars on both sides of the ball but was named an All-State honorable mention at wide receiver — coming back for their senior seasons.
The Challenge
It will be tough for South Lafourche to put the start to 2024 behind it, but that’s a necessity to try and make it back to playoff football.
In addition, the Tarpons are still mired in one of the toughest football districts in the area, and the schedule is backloaded with road games. From mid-October on, SLHS will play only one game at home in Galliano, and are set to close the regular season by traveling to perennial contender Lutcher.
The Expectations
This season’s South Lafourche team will resemble more of the end of last season than the beginning, and that might just be enough to sneak into the postseason.
