Las Vegas Raiders third-year EDGE Tyree Wilson finds himself in the midst of an important training camp. The No. 7 overall selection in the 2023 NFL draft, Wilson has failed to meet the expectations attached to a top-10 pick. The former Texas Tech standout recorded 3.5 sacks as a rookie. He was mildly better as a sophomore in 2024, totaling 27 tackles and 4.5 sacks.

The Raiders are multiple GMs removed from Dave Ziegler, the decision maker who selected Wilson in 2023. John Spytek and Pete Carroll have little reason to show extended patience with Wilson’s development. That makes it a now-or-never season for the talented but raw defensive end in 2025.

Bleacher Report recently identified seven NFL players with the most at stake during the 2025 preseason. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson are among the listed players. Wilson also made the cut.

“After two lackluster seasons primarily on the edge, Wilson could provide a spark through his versatility,” Moe Moton wrote. “He’s the third edge-rusher behind Maxx Crosby and Malcolm Koonce, but the 2023 first-rounder could also become a disruptive defensive tackle who generates pressure up the middle. Wherever he lines up, the third-year pro must show why a previous regime selected him with the seventh overall pick.”

The Raiders will enter the season with Maxx Crosby and Malcolm Koonce as their starting EDGE rushers. Wilson could earn more snaps inside following Christian Wilkins’ release, but the realistic best-case scenario sees Wilson develop into a quality rotational rusher. His progress (or lack thereof) will be worth monitoring throughout the preseason.
