Jordan Love didn’t hesitate. Asked by ESPN’s Kevin Clark who the best newcomer at Green Bay Packers training camp has been, the third-year starting quarterback quickly spit out a name.
”Matthew Golden.”

The Packers’ first-round pick made a big first impression and continues to show he can be a big part of what Love and the passing game try to do in 2025.
“He’s shown up since Day 1 and just really showing his play style, showing what he’s all about,” Love told Clark. “He came in really polished and has been making plays since Day 1. He’s got very aggressive hands, he’s a smooth route runner, he’s got speed.”
The Packers made Golden the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 draft, believing he had the combination of speed, confidence and hands to be an impact player. So far, the assessment looks accurate.
Throughout camp, Golden has played with the first-team offense and created big plays. And he’s dominated at times in 1-on-1s.

But it’s still early. Love believes the sky is the limit for Golden once he gets Matt LaFleur’s detailed offense down.
“For him, it’s just continue to understand the playbook and wrap his head around everything we have in because we have a very deep system. But you can see when he knows what he’s doing and feeling confident, he’s been playing lights out. He’s gonna be a stud.”
