The Detroit Lions are must-see TV.
At least that’s how CBS is treating them, with the network assigning its top broadcasting crew — play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz, color commentator Tony Romo and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson — for the team’s Week 1 game on the road against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Sept. 7.

The Lions‘ season opener at Lambeau Field kicks off at 4:25 p.m. ET.
The Lions have already shown this season that they can be a big television draw. The preseason Hall of Fame Game against the Los Angeles Chargers on July 31 drew 6.21 million viewers, marking the most-watched Hall of Fame Game since 2021. As a comparison point, that game drew more viewers than 81% of MLB postseason games in 2024 and 77% of NBA playoff games in 2025, per Sports Media Watch.
NFL schedulers are treating the Lions like a go-to team, with five Lions games scheduled for primetime for the upcoming season. Those games include Sunday Night Football matchups against the defending AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 12 and the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 15.
