The TCU Horned Frogs are less than 30 days from kicking off the 2025 football season with a nonconference road matchup against the North Carolina Tar Heels and new head coach Bill Belichick. As we count down the days until kickoff, we’ll highlight a former (or current) Horned Frog whose jersey number represents the number of days left until the opener.

27 – Tony Jeffery (Running Back – 1984-87)

Jeffery played in 40 games over his four years with the Horned Frogs, rushing for 3,749 yards and 31 touchdowns over that stretch. Jeffery, who was inducted into the TCU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019, was named a Second-Team All-SWC honoree during his senior season in 1987, when he stampeded for a career-high 1,353 yards and 10 scores. A dual threat as a pass catcher out of the backfield, Jeffery reeled in 51 receptions for 637 yards and three touchdowns over the course of his TCU career.

A standout at Gladewater High School, Jeffery was picked in the second round of the 1988 NFL Draft by the Phoenix Cardinals. Jeffery, whose brief professional career included stints with the San Francisco 49ers (1990) and the New York/New Jersey Knights of the World League of American Football (1991), played in three games for the Cardinals, rushing three times for 8 yards and returning one kickoff for 11 yards.
