WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WVNS) – A pesky case known as the sophomore slump is infectious enough to hinder most NFL players. Texans’ Quarterback CJ Stroud was one who unfortunately suffered the side effects in the 2024 NFL season after an amazing record setting rookie season in Houston.

He threw 7 more interceptions in his second season, while his passer rating also dropped. That being said, Stroud still broke 3,500 passing yards and 20 passing touchdowns. Not many quarterbacks lead their teams to a division title and a playoff victory during a down year. These are two feats Stroud accomplished all during his so-called sophomore slump season.

The gunslinger has been focusing on better setting himself up for success during training camp.

“Sometimes you can throw a ball and it [does] not even look like a bad ball, but it is just bad communication between me and my receiver. So that is like one point of emphasis on you know, like having to work through those kinks,” said Stroud.

Maintaining a positive mentality has been one thing Stroud prioritizes to move on to the next play after making mistakes. Stroud said everything is finally starting to come together at this point of training camp.

Head Coach, DeMeco Ryans added that their trip to the Mountain State has provided the energy boost they needed as they get ready to kick off preseason.

“Great weather for guys to be able to work every day. It is very convenient where we are. The [Greenbrier Sports] Performance Center here feels right. It has been outstanding,” said Coach Ryans.
