CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – NFL training camp is officially over, meaning New England patriots action is right around the corner.

Patriots fans optimistic for a winning season

Football is back! On Friday, the Patriots have their first preseason game against the Washington Commanders.

Second-year quarterback Drake Maye has taken strides this offseason, but he wasn’t the problem on offense last year. New England added multiple pieces to bolster their offensive line and protect the young quarterback, including the 4th overall pick, Will Campbell.

How the new line comes together is something to watch. The Pats also brought in star wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who has looked great at camp after tearing his ACL last year. There are a lot of other receivers fighting for a roster spot, so keep an eye out for who impresses the most in the preseason.

New head coach Mike Vrabel says Friday’s game is a chance to get warm before games count. “It’ll be a game, allow us to get out there, but still just looking at it like a practice opportunity to continue to work and get guys the reps that we think they’re going to need for the start of the season.”

While he didn’t specify how much, Vrabel says that everyone healthy enough will play in the Pats’ preseason opener.

You can watch the game on 22News Friday night, kickoff is at 7:30, and stay with us for coverage of the game and the unveiling of the Tom Brady statue at Gillette.
