Another day of practice produced another highlight reel play for San Francisco 49ers rookie cornerback Upton Stout.

In the 49ers’ joint practice with the Denver Broncos on Thursday, Stout dominated a one-on-one rep against Denver wide receiver Troy Franklin and came away with an interception. The play displayed the physicality and tenacity that allow Stout to thrive despite being just 5-8, 181 pounds.

Franklin tried running an out, but Stout stayed in the WR’s hip pocket and jumped the route for an interception when Franklin fell down. It was an excellent solo rep from an ascending player on San Francisco’s defense.

It’s easy to see why Stout has drawn rave reviews from the 49ers’ coaching staff after watching a play like this. Generally one-on-one reps are geared toward making life easy for the offense, so seeing Stout dominate even one snap so thoroughly is impressive.

The key now will be finding consistency and holding up in game situations. Stout figures to get his first shot at in-game action Saturday when the 49ers and Broncos face off for their preseason opener. Kickoff is slated for 5:30pm at Levi’s Stadium.
