NFL Fans Aren’t Happy With FOX’s Replacement For Jimmy Johnson originally appeared on The Spun.

After decades as one of the hosts of the FOX NFL Sunday pregame show, Hall of Fame head coach Jimmy Johnson announced his departure from the network at the end of last season. His replacement has already been announced, but people are not thrilled.

Ahead of the 2025 season, FOX Sports announced that four-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski will be filling Johnson’s seat. He has already worked with the network on many NFL media projects before, so it’s not a surprise that they’re giving him the job.

Gronkowski is arguably the most well-known tight end in the entire world. He’s been featured in just about every form of media ranging from commercials to television shows to professional wrestling.

That said, Gronkowski isn’t exactly Greg Olsen when it comes to the X’s and O’s. He knows his football, of course, but has a pretty sizable portion of fans who are just plain tired of him.

Reaction

News of Gronkowski being added to the FOX NFL Sunday desk has led to a ton of negative reactions on social media. Whether it’s fatigue from the network continuously adding members of the New England Patriots dynasty to their ranks (like Tom Brady and Julian Edelman) or just fatigue over seeing Gronk himself, people are making their voices heard:

“Is it me or anyone else who doesn’t like hearing this dude talk?” one user remarked.

“Gronk is just not good at talking ball I’m sorry he’s funny when that’s what matters but sometimes you gotta actually be able to break shit down,” wrote another.

“Gronk does not belong on an analyst desk. Idk why this is being forced,” a third wrote.

“Biggest downgrade in broadcasting history.”

“Horrible decision. If Captain Obvious and General Cliche had a baby, that’d be Gronk.”

“As a Pats fan I LOVE Gronk but he belongs nowhere near a microphone. He’s awful.”

Many fans also believe that the network’s continued employment of NFL legend Terry Bradshaw has also been making the show harder to watch:

“Terry Bradshaw needs to call it a career too.”

“They gotta get rid of Bradshaw and Gronk is awful.”

“Why the hell don’t they make Terry Bradshaw retire? It’s definitely time.”

Do you think FOX made the right decision here?
