Things to watch for in Titans preseason opener

  • August 9, 2025

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Titans open the preseason on the road. They face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.

Here are some things to watch for from the Titans in their first outing in a game-like situation:

Cam Ward

The rookie quarterback will play one, possibly two, series with the first team offense. The number one overall pick has put in the work in Training Camp and steadily improved throughout his ample practice time. Brian Callahan and the offensive staff need to see how he operates under fire in a game.

Offensive Line

The Titans have a new starting left tackle, starting right guard and their right tackle moved over from the left side. Also, Corey Levin is filling in at center while Lloyd Cushenberry rehabs a torn Achilles tendon. The front five is a key to what Ward will be able to do this season.

Here are instructions on how to watch WSMV4 live on various platforms.

Rookies

Pick a position, rookies will be in play to earn time on the field. Receivers Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor get their first looks in an NFL game. Tight end Gunnar Helm has impressed the coaching staff enough to where he is currently second string on the depth chart. These guys will likely get plenty of reps against the Bucs.

Pass Rush

We know Arden Key is a starter on the edge. Right now Dre’Mont Jones is the other guy on the outside. Let’s see what rookie Oluwafemi Oladejo can do. He’s still new to the position, but his high motor has impressed the coaching staff in training camp.

Special Teams

It’s all new. Kicker Joey Slye, punter Johnny Hekker, and coordinator John Fassel. Saturday is the first time out for all of them. Also, the Titans are auditioning punt returners. James Proche II seems to be the leader out of the gate, but others will get looks. Also, punt and kick coverage can only be improved after last season.
