The Tennessee Titans open the Cam Ward era in the preseason with a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Aug. 9 at Raymond James Stadium.
Ward and the Titans starters will play at least a series in Saturday’s game, per Brian Callahan. The No. 1 overall pick has had a normal rookie training camp so far, with good and bad mixed in as he adapts to NFL speed and a new scheme.
The preseason game will be fans’ first look at the retooled offensive line that includes new left tackle Dan Moore and veteran guard Kevin Zeitler as well as 2024 first-round pick JC Latham at right tackle.
Another focus during the preseason will be on the wide receiver rotation behind Calvin Ridley, including rookies Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike. The two fourth-round picks should get plenty of snaps on Saturday.
The Tennessean is bringing you live updates, scores and highlights from the Titans’ preseason game. Follow along below.
Cam Ward goes 5-for-6 for 67 yards on the scoring drive.
Overall, Ward is 5-of-8 for 67 yards through two series. Calvin Ridley has three catches for 50 yards. That is likely it for the Titans’ starters.
Inside the red zone, Bucs receiver Jacob Harris tries to push for a first down but is stripped by Davion Ross. Joshuah Bledsoe recovers.
Brandon Allen’s arm is hit on a pass attempt, and Bucs defensive lineman Nick Jackson picks off the fluttering pass.
Brandon Allen’s fourth-down pass in the red zone flies out of the end zone, incomplete. Allen and the Titans put together a solid drive, including catches by Gunnar Helm (16 yards) and Bryce Oliver (12 yards) for first downs. But no points.
Titans’ pass protection has been solid so far today.
The Bucs’ second-teamers drive down the field late in the half and settle for a 23-yard field goal by Chase McLaughlin.
Tampa Bay has run 40 plays to Tennessee’s 18, and the Bucs are outgaining the Titans 209-87.
Tyjae Spears limped off after a reception in the second quarter and has now been carted off ahead of halftime with an apparent lower-body injury.
James Williams has his highlight of the night, blowing up a third-down screen for a loss. The Titans defense forces a punt for the first time tonight.
Much, much better drive for Cam Ward and the Titans’ starting offense. Ward hit Calvin Ridley for three receptions and 50 yards, including a 27-yard reception to begin the drive. Then Ward made a couple key third-down conversion throws, to Chig Okonkwo and Tyler Lockett.
The drive is capped by a Tony Pollard 1-yard touchdown run. PAT good by Joey Slye.
The Titans’ defense, exclusively with second-and-third-teamers, allow a long drive capped by a Sean Tucker 2-yard touchdown run. Tampa Bay had three third-down conversions and a fourth-down conversion on the drive, and the key play was a Tucker 23-yard run that contained poor tackling and outside contain by the defense.
Cam Ward will come out for a second possession.
The Titans’ No. 1 offense opens with a three-and-out. Tyjae Spears gets a solid gain on a first-down carry, but Cam Ward’s first pass was broken up over the middle targeting Van Jefferson. On third down, Ward couldn’t find an open receiver and had to throw the ball away.
Imagine the Titans’ starters get another drive after that brief cameo, but we’ll see given the wet conditions.
1st impression: Thought Cam might’ve been a split second late on 1st attempt. 2nd play seemed like good coverage everywhere his eyes went and good move not to try to fit it in somewhere he shouldn’t, but still a little weird he didn’t throw out of bounds.https://t.co/k2YvP09HoM

Kyle Trask and the Bucs’ second-team offense comes out firing. Jalen McMillan beats Darrell Baker Jr. on a vertical route for 25 yards, and Emeka Egbuka out-jostles Amani Hooker for a 21-yard catch.
The Titans defense holds to force a field goal attempt, and Chase McLaughlin’s 45-yard field goal is good.
Cam Ward, you’re up.
That first defensive series kinda felt how the defense has felt all camp. Some good players in spots. Confident in the middle. Nice bend-don’t-break feeling. But you can see the potential for concern with the rush and the secondary.
Annnnnyway, let’s watch Cam Ward
