They weren’t impressed.
For all of the hype surrounding Travis Hunter’s NFL preseason debut, some fans were left feeling underwhelmed with the Heisman Trophy winner’s performance in Saturday’s matchup vs. the Steelers.

While other rookies like Shedeur Sanders and Jaxson Dart showed out in their first taste of pro football action (not to mention the special teams splashes from former Buffs receiver LaJohntay Wester and Ohio State’s TreVeyon Henderson), Travis finished with just two catches for nine yards in this weekend’s game with no stats on defense outside of a missed tackle.
Hunter made his first catch on the third play from scrimmage for the Jags for a three-yard gain from a Trevor Lawrence pass, and his next catch (that counted) helped set up a Jacksonville field goal attempt.

That didn’t seem to be good enough for those on the internet though who voiced their concerns on X.
“I’m at the game,” a user shared. “Travis Hunter created no separation at WR. Steeler backups all over him.”
“Hopefully wrong cause I like the guy but Travis Hunter feels like a bust waiting to happen,” another said.
“Travis Hunter ain’t s—t btw 😂😵💫” a fan commented.
“Travis hunter just got his head dribbled on the in his floor first drive of defense 😭😭😭😭😭☠️☠️☠️☠️” another person laughed.

“Travis Hunter is getting absolutely WORKED 😂 he not ready,” another user claimed.
“Dont ask me why but ion see travis hunter being as good as he was projected to be.”
“Travis Hunter only played 2 drives ? How is he supposed to get conditioned and ready to play full games during the season,” another fan asked.
“Travis Hunter and Cam Ward are the easiest 1-2 bust picks in NFL history.”

All in all it seemed to be a fairly solid debut for Travis whose career won’t be made or broken off the back of one preseason game.

There’s still plenty to be excited about up in northern Florida and hopefully this is just the beginning of what could be a legendary NFL career.
