The worst fear has come true for a trusted Kansas City Chiefs veteran as the injury bug has hit the defense in preseason Week 1.
Veteran Chiefs defensive back Deon Bush left Saturday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals with a serious lower leg injury. Details weren’t immediately available after he was taken off the field, but head coach Andy Reid revealed a devastating update on his condition during his postgame press conference.

“Bush is an Achilles, yes,” said Reid to reporters after the game, “So he’s got to have surgery on it; he’ll get double checked here. But, I mean, I think we’re looking at surgery there. It’s too bad because he’s really been playing well. He’s a great kid, too.”
The injury occurred in the second quarter of the Chiefs’ 20-17 loss in Arizona. Bush was on Kansas City’s Super Bowl LVII and LVIII championship rosters and was making strides at training camp this year. He was starting his fourth season with the Chiefs as an experienced reserve player.
In nine regular-season campaigns, Bush has only made 12 starts, but collected three interceptions and tallied 110 combined tackles in 103 games.
