The 2025 NFL regular season will get underway on Thursday, Sept. 4 with the Philadelphia Eagles taking on the Dallas Cowboys.

The Eagles, who topped the Chiefs in Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans, will be looking to defend their title in 2025. The Cowboys, meanwhile, will be looking to simply make the playoffs. Dallas went 7-10 in 2024, leading to the ousting of longtime head coach Mike McCarthy. Jerry Jones surprised many with his coaching choice, promoting offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to the head gig.
Cowboys fans have a little optimism heading into 2025, following the offseason trade for wide receiver George Pickens, plus the health of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Of course, the Micah Parsons trade demand/holdout situation is causing a bit of a panic heading into Week 1, too.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said that he’s not confident that Parsons will be available for Week 1. That would obviously be a massive loss for the Cowboys if he’s unable to go.

“No, absolutely not,” Jones said when asked by ESPN’s Todd Archer if he’s confident Parsons will play on Sept. 4 against the host Philadelphia Eagles. “A big part of it is his decision.”
Who will emerge from that Week 1 game with a win? ESPN’s computer model, the Football Power Index, has made its pick.

ESPN’s computer model, the Football Power Index, likes the Eagles – big.
The Football Power Index is giving the Philadelphia Eagles a 66.4 percent chance of winning the game. It gives the Cowboys just a 33.3 percent chance of pulling off the upset on the road.

The Cowboys’ chances will likely take an even bigger hit if Parsons is unable to go in Week 1. He’s holding out, wanting a new contract. He recently demanded a trade out of Dallas, though it would be shocking if Jones actually responds to that request.
Dallas is likely going to reach an agreement with Parsons before Week 1, but if the Cowboys can’t, they’ll have a really hard time stopping the Philadelphia attack at Lincoln Financial Field on that Thursday night.
