New UCF football head coach Scott Frost signed a five-year, $22.1 million contract with the Knights, according to an executive summary shared to WESH 2 by the school’s Athletics Association. The contract for Frost will officially start July 1 ahead of the 2025 season and run through January 31, 2030 (2029 season). According to the executive summary, Frost will be paid the prorated amount of $3.8 million from his hiring date of Dec. 8, 2024 to June 30, 2025. Frost will make a guaranteed $3.9 million in his first official season with the Knights. That amount will increase to $4.15 million in his second season, $4.4 million during the 2027-28 season, $4.65 million in the fourth season and $5 million in his last final season of the agreement. Should the Knights qualify for a bowl appearance, a salary of $5.25 million, along with an additional year to his contract. Other bonuses include $200,000 for winning a College Football Playoff championship. $100,000 will be awarded if Frost leads UCF in a win against a CFP-affiliated bowl or playoff game, and there is a $50,000 bonus for each season that the Knights win 10 regular-season games.There is a $75,000 bonus for participating in a conference championship game, and $50,000 for winning a conference championship. Frost returns to Central Florida for a second stint following the resignation of Gus Malzahn toward the end of the 2024 season.Terry Mohajir, vice president and director of athletics, said they searched coast to coast for potential candidates to take the UCF’s head football coach role before narrowing it down to Frost.“No one wanted to lead our program more than Scott,” Mohajir said last December following Frost’s introductory news conference. Should UCF fire the coach, the school is obligated to pay 75% of his guaranteed compensation, and Frost has “a duty to mitigate buyout amount” with the buyout offset based on new employment, dollar for dollar. Should Frost decide to leave UCF before June 30, 2026, he will owe $6.5 million, or $5.5 million owed to UCF if he terminates the contract on or before June 30, 2027. $4.5 million will be owed before June 30, 2028; $3.5 million owed before June 30, 2029, and $2.5 million owed if he terminates the contract on July 1, 2029, through the last regular season game of the 2029 season.The Knights kick off the season against Jacksonville State of Alabama on Aug. 28 at FBC Mortgage Stadium.
