WESTFIELD, Ind. — The Colts are adjusting the playing-time plan for the quarterbacks against Green Bay to reflect the wrench Anthony Richardson’s injury threw into Shane Steichen’s initial plan.
Richardson was initially supposed to play a quarter and a half against the Ravens before giving way to Daniel Jones.
But the dislocated pinky finger Richardson suffered on his second series ended up giving Jones most of the first half.
Steichen’s new plan for the Green Bay game will essentially be the inverse, which was the original Indianapolis plan all along. Before Richardson’s injury, Jones was supposed to start and get a quarter and a half against the Packers, then give way to Richardson.
“Daniel will start this game, he’ll play a couple of series, and then Anthony will finish the first half,” Steichen said.
The big difference is that Indianapolis will play more starters on both sides of the ball. The Colts held a significant chunk of the starting lineup out of the Ravens game.
“The starters will play about a quarter,” Steichen said. “That’s the plan right now.”
A few key players — running back Jonathan Taylor was the player asked about — may be on a different pitch count.
“There’s certain guys that we’ll have a plan for,” Steichen said. “But for the most part, those guys will play.”
Steichen does not have a timetable for naming a starting quarterback.
If he thinks the competition needs to continue into the Cincinnati game, the Colts will continue the open competition between Richardson and Jones.
“They’re still battling,” Steichen said. “We’ve got a joint practice, we’ve got this week and possibly next week, and we’ll see how this thing plays out.”
