Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton released a statement via a post on X stating why he was absent from practice on Aug. 10.

Burton wasn’t at practice due to an undisclosed injury and the team is calling his status day-to-day.

Burton is entering his second season with the Bengals and is looking to put a tough rookie season behind him. His first year in the NFL was included two evictions, frequent tardiness with meetings and missing practice the day before Cincinnati’s Week 9 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The final straw of the year for head coach Zac Taylor was when he didn’t allow Burton to travel with the Bengals for their final regular season game in Pittsburgh on Jan.4.

Burton said he spent the offseason trying to build a better routine off the field to ensure he reaches his maximum potential. He is fighting for a starting role on special teams as a returner. The sooner he can return to the field the better as the snaps he will get in the final two preseason games could be invaluable to the team as they solidify starting roles in the next few weeks.

The Bengals drafted Burton in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft out of the University of Alabama.
