Orchard Park, N.Y. (WHAM) — Every year, there’s always a “training camp darling” for the Bills.
This year, it might be Stephen Gosnell.
“Oh yeah, I like him,” said running back Ty Johnson. “I like him a lot.”
“Steve, that’s my guy, bro,” added wide receiver Khalil Shakir. “I like him a lot.”
The team already loves the undrafted rookie wide receiver from Virginia Tech.
“It’s been good,” Gosnell said. “I’m just going in there whenever they call my number.”
But they don’t just call him by his number.
“I do have a nickname. We don’t have to say it,” Gosnell joked.
He didn’t want to say it, so we asked around.
“What nickname? Which nickname you talking about?” Ty Johnson replied.
“You’ve heard the nickname already?” Shakir added.
That nickname? White Steve.
“Hell yeah, I love it,” Ty Johnson said. “It’s hilarious.”
“It is funny,” Shakir added. “I mean, I think he is the only white guy in the (wide receiver) room.”
“You can blame coach (Joe) Brady,” Gosnell explained.
Yeah, it was actually his offensive coordinator who came up with the name.
“I call him White Steve. (He) does everything right,” Brady said.
Gosnell wasted little time making a strong impression, catching a touchdown from Josh Allen on the first week of camp.
“He was like ‘Oh my God, I’m in the huddle with Josh’ at first. And then the next day, he catches a touchdown from him. And I’m like ‘Oh yeah, you’re living life right now, dude'” Shakir explained.
“Obviously, best quarterback in the NFL, so that was really cool,” Gosnell said regarding the moment.
Gosnell’s mindset at training camp is simple.
He’s not thinking about yesterday or tomorrow — he’s just trying to go out there and, as he says, “do his job.”

I asked him if he thinks the nickname will stick. He smiled and laughed, saying “We’ll see.”
