LOS ANGELES— Heading into the offseason, and depending on the media outlet, the future seemed bleak in Dallas for Cowboys running back Deuce Vaughn.

The pint-sized former Kansas State All-American with strong connections to Murray was being seen as a sure departure from the Cowboys roster, due to lack of production and playing time.

However, as the preseason has arrived, Vaughn appears to have new life in Big D.

The son of former Murray State standout Chris Vaughn and Murray High and Murray State alum Marquette (Foster) Vaughn has been causing waves in practices. Most important, it appears new Cowboys Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer is willing to give Vaughn a better shot.

Saturday, Vaughn was given the ball twice in the Cowboys’ preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams and ended with a solid 11 yards on two carries, both of which came early in the game. His longest run was eight yards.

Vaughn played after being medically cleared for action after sustaining what appeared to be a minor hamstring injury in practice, leading into Saturday’s game.
