Jeff Wilson Jr. appears back at home with the 49ers.

The eight-year NFL veteran running back officially re-signed with San Francisco on Monday after spending the first 4 1/2 seasons of his career (2018-22) in the Bay, and told reporters Monday at 49ers training camp that he feels comfortable in coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense, despite his three-year stint with the Miami Dolphins.

“It’s kind of like riding a bike,” Wilson told reporters in Santa Clara. “I’ve been there for a pretty good while. Some things have changed — nothing’s the same, everything’s always evolving and changing.

“It’s not the exact same, but there are some familiarities that I’m used to in there.”

Wilson has a formidable history with San Francisco.

During his first stint with the 49ers, the 29-year-old generated 2,120 yards from scrimmage with 19 touchdowns on 435 touches. Wilson only started 15 games for San Francisco in that span, but he helped the franchise return to contention and reach its first of two eventual Super Bowl losses against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Wilson returns to the 49ers after spending the past three seasons in Miami under coach Mike McDaniel — a branch from Shanahan’s coaching tree and San Francisco’s offensive coordinator in 2021.

So, while three years removed from Shanahan’s scheme, Wilson isn’t entering uncharted territory.

“It was similar, but not the same,” Wilson said about playing in Miami. “Everybody has their own ways of doing things. And, you know, it’s not the same person. Kyle’s not in two places; Mike’s not in two places. So it won’t be the exact same, but there are familiarities in there.

“But it’s definitely different. The core and the base of it are kind of the same.”

Wilson collected 835 yards from scrimmage with four touchdowns on 435 touches as a sturdy reserve with the Dolphins. Shanahan and the banged-up 49ers would love that type of production from Wilson behind All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey.

“Awesome player, awesome person, and pumped him back in here,” Shanahan told reporters of Wilson on Monday.
