Having impressed for the Longhorns during his time at the University of Texas, he was rated highly going into his rookie season.

But he struggled to make a good impression during his first game.

Ewers went just 5-for-18 passing, managing just 91 yards.

He also failed to make any interceptions or passing touchdowns and fumbled the ball twice.

Fans took to social media to react to his performance, with one person writing: “He looked uncomfortable. Hope he turns things around!”

Another commented: “Project. But he does need some better players around him either way.”

A third said: “He can do better. Bad luck, bad timing, bad showing.”

While Colin Cowherd wrote: “Someone told ya…”

Ewers was the third quarterback on the field and got most of the passing work, but he did have back-ups.

Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson also featured.
