Former Oregon Ducks wide receiver Traeshon Holden is impressing with the Dallas Cowboys in training camp and during the first preseason game, earning high praise from his head coach.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer had this to say about Holden, who signed with Dallas as an unrestricted free agent after going undrafted in 2025: “He shows up every day,” he said. “Literally every day there’s been one or two big plays. And when you do that, you get noticed … you get more opportunities.”

He finished with the biggest statement of all, saying “You’ll see him moving up the depth chart.”

Holden caught two passes for a team-high 42 yards in the Cowboys’ preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams. That included a 35-yard reception on a vertical route from quarterback Joe Milton III. Milton, noticing the defense in Cover 2, layered a pass down the sideline to Holden, who caught it on the run before being tackled.

After beginning his career with the Alabama Crimson Tide for two seasons, Holden transferred to Oregon for the final two seasons of his college tenure.

In 26 games for the Ducks, Holden caught 83 passes for 1,170 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was the team’s second-leading receiver in 2024. He finished his career with a monster seven-reception, 116-yard, two-touchdown performance in the Rose Bowl despite Oregon’s 41-21 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Now carrying over that momentum to the pros, Holden, straight from his head coaches words, is moving up the depth chart in Dallas. If he continues to excel, he’ll find himself in position to be on the Cowboys’ final roster — a major feat for an undrafted prospect.
