The Patriots replenished their running back depth Tuesday by signing rookie Shane Watts to their 90-man roster.

In a corresponding roster move, the Patriots cut veteran running back Deneric Prince.

Watts, 23, went undrafted out of Fort Hays State. The 5-foot-9, 195-pound back rushed for 1,303 rushing yards and 449 receiving yards with 17 total touchdowns last season. He ran a 4.51-second 40-yard dash at his pro day in March.

He joins Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson, Antonio Gibson, JaMycal Hasty and Terrell Jennings on the Patriots’ running back depth chart. Stevenson has missed recent practices for undisclosed reasons. Jennings also left Monday’s practice early with a trainer.

The Patriost will participate in joint practices with the Vikings on Wednesday and Thursday in Minnesota before they play Saturday at 1 p.m. in preseason action.
