Former UConn quarterback and Xavier High School standout Tim Boyle was released by the Tennessee Titans on Monday, after a rough showing in the team’s first preseason game.

The 30-year-old was the third quarterback used in Tennessee’s preseason-opening 29-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, and he struggled mightily.

Boyle went 4-for-13 for 24 yards and threw two interceptions. He was trying to earn a spot on the team after fellow former Xavier quarterback Will Levis injured his shoulder last month and underwent season-ending surgery.

The Middlefield native was famously signed by the Jets to back up his friend Aaron Rodgers after the former MVP signed with New York in 2023. He’s played six seasons in the NFL.

Boyle spent three seasons at UConn from 2013-15, throwing for just one touchdown and 13 interceptions while playing in 24 games. He then transferred to FCS school Eastern Kentucky, where he threw for 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in two seasons. He wasn’t chosen in the 2018 NFL Draft, but made the Green Bay Packers roster as an undrafted free agent and spent two seasons there.

Trevor Siemian, who was born in Danbury but grew up in Florida, replaced Boyle on the Titans’ roster.
