Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed is battling a foot injury
Packers coach Matt LaFleur said he is hopeful Jayden Reed will be ready for Week 1. He missed the preseason opener and had on a walking boot.
Jordan Love’s injury was the headliner. But elsewhere on the offense, the Green Bay Packers‘ wide receivers have caught the injury bug as well.
And the season hasn’t even started.
The Packers entered training camp with a wide receiver room, even without an injured Christian Watson, that was that was deep and full of veterans and newcomers who had something to prove. In fact, this group had so many guys from top to bottom that head coach Matt LaFleur moved one of his receivers (Bo Melton) to defense.
Well, those players, much like the running backs earlier during training camp, continue to drop after being struck hard by injuries.
Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks have joined Watson on the sideline in recent days and now Romeo Doubs will likely be added to the injury report after leaving practice on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Here’s the status of each wide receiver and what the current depth chart looks like as the Packers head to Indianapolis to play the Colts in their second preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 16.
Green Bay Packers injuries
Love’s injury to his thumb was the biggest news to come before practice on Aug. 12. But the injuries kept coming when the team hit the field.
And the pass catchers, who are already down some of their top players, were the latest to be sidelined.
First came Doubs, who left practice after a collision. It wasn’t immediately clear what Doubs hurt, according to reports, but he was slow to get up before walking with a trainer into the Don Hutson Center. Doubs suffered two concussions last season, including one in the team’s playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He has been wearing a Guardian Cap throughout training camp and the preseason.
Also on offense, tight end Luke Musgrave bowed out early with what appeared to be an ankle injury.
These injuries are in addition to the many wide receivers who have been out or missed time.
With the exception of Watson, returning to training camp practice on a regular basis will be important for these players as preparations ramp up for the regular season. Those injuries, however, will open the door for others further down the depth chart as those players fight for roster spots.
