Former Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison joined the Miami Dolphins this offseason hoping to revive his NFL career in their run-friendly system.

Unfortunately, his season is ending before the regular season begins.

Mattison was injured in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s preseason matchup against the Chicago Bears. He caught a pass from Quinn Ewers, ran upfield, and then was tackled, falling on his head.

Adam Schefter reported that Mattison had surgery on his neck on Sunday after being taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Fortunately, it appears that Mattison was in good spirits following the surgery.

Mattison spent the first five seasons of his career with the Vikings from 2019-23. In 2024, he joined the Las Vegas Raiders, running for 420 yards and four touchdowns.
