Russell Martin is in the midst of revamping the Ibrox squad for both the Premiership and Champions League(Image: SNS Group)

Rangers have been warned they must keep Jack Butland this summer amid an escalating clearout of the Ibrox dressing room.

Russell Martin is still looking to put his own stamp on the Glasgow giants squad after a rocky start to the Scottish Premiership campaign.

Despite two draws to start the season domestically, the boss has navigated a route to the Champions League playoff round after the new Ibrox owners 49ers Enterprises bringing in nine players for the boss so far this summer.

Goalkeeper Butland has been the stand-out performer in the qualification rounds despite struggling to hold down a starting spot towards the end of last season.

And with the club look to cut the size of the squad, Martin and the American owners have been warned against cashing in on the England cap by Richard Foster.

He told the Go Radio Football Show: “He (Butland) is OK with the ball at his feet, I think Liam (Kelly) is probably better, obviously Liam is a bit smaller – but he starts the way he does and obviously he is going to get interest.

“Goalkeeper is such a specialised position that everyone is on the lookout for them. It would be devastating for Rangers if they lost him.

“For Rangers to replace him, I think it would take a decent amount of money. If you suddenly lose your goalkeeper, how much work have you done in looking at another goalkeeper?”

Ridvan Yilmaz has dropped out of the Ibrox picture under Martin with Besiktas president Serdal Adali revealing that the club are in talks over bringing the 24-year-old back to the club.

Yilmaz arrived at Ibrox in 2022 in a £5million deal but has failed to hold down a regular starting spot in the Scottish Premiership.

Yeni Acik now report that Rangers have cut the valuation of the Turkish international from £5.1million to £2.5million in the last year after Besiktas enquired about a deal last summer.

A new left-back could be on the agenda before the window closes with Palmeiras in negotiations to sign Jefte for as much as €6million (£5.1million).

UOL claim that the the left-back has agreed a five-year deal with the Brazilian side with talks ongoing over a free to bring the 21-year-old back to his homeland.

Jose Cifuentes is also reportedly in talks over another loan exit after a year on loan at Aris Saloniki.

Brazilian outlet RTI Sport claim that talks over a five-month loan to Sport Club do Recife have “progressed’ in the last 48 hours after an option to buy was placed in the agreement.
