The Pittsburgh Steelers will be an interesting team to watch during the 2025 NFL regular season.

Most eyes, of course, will be on the offense. The Steelers signed Aaron Rodgers as a free agent quarterback. Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, spent the past two seasons with the New York Jets. His tenure in New York did not go very well, as he missed the 2023 season with a torn Achilles injury and returned in 2024, only to miss the playoffs.

The Steelers had Russell Wilson and Justin Fields under center last year, but they failed to contend at the top of the AFC, too.

Will things be different in 2025?

If the Steelers are going to contend in the AFC North, it’ll probably be because of their defense.

The Steelers made a big offseason trade, acquiring Jalen Ramsey from the Miami Dolphins. They’ve also got franchise stalwart T.J. Watt.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin sent a clear warning to the rest of the league on Thursday, suggesting that his defense could put up historic numbers.

“We feel really good about the prospects of this group. We do,” Tomlin said. “We’ve got to write that story. We’ve got enough talent, we’ve got enough schematics to do big, big things. When I say big things, I’m talking about historic things.”

The Steelers also added Darius Slay and Juan Thornhill to the secondary while adding Derrick Harmon, Jack Sawyer, and Yahya Black to the front seven, via the NFL Draft.

Pittsburgh is scheduled to open the 2025 season on Sunday, Sept. 7 against the New York Jets.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. E.T.
