The injury bug continues to strike during 49ers training camp.

San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that rookie defensive tackle CJ West hyperextended his knee Thursday during joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders.

49ers rookie DT CJ West sustained what appears to be a hyperextended knee, Kyle Shanahan said. It’s similar to Mykel Williams’ injury of last week. The initial diagnosis shows no ACL damage.

This isn’t the first time a hyperextended knee has occurred in practice so far this summer. Fellow rookie defensive lineman Mykel Williams also suffered the same injury earlier in training camp.

West suffered his injury during a pass-rush drill, and luckily was able to walk to the sideline under his own power.

DT CJ West’s left knee buckled and he went down during 1-on-1 pass rush drill. The 49ers’ medical staff checked him out and he was able to walk back on his own for further observation.

The Indiana alum had 40 tackles last season for the Hoosiers.

West played 26 snaps in the team’s first preseason game against the Denver Broncos. The fourth-round pick seems to have avoided a serious knee injury.
