Darnold did not play in Seattle’s first preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Instead, Drew Lock started while third-round rookie Jalen Milroe also got playing time in the team’s 23-all tie.
Still, Darnold figures to see the field at some point during the preseason. That will give Seahawks fans an idea of just how good the 2024 Pro Bowler will be in Klint Kubiak’s offense and whether he can prove to be an upgrade over Geno Smith.
As for the Chiefs, it isn’t clear how long they may play Patrick Mahomes in this one. The two-time MVP threw just one pass in the team’s preseason opener, a 1-yard completion, before the Chiefs handed the reins over to Gardner Minshew, Bailey Zappe and Chris Oladokun the rest of the way.
