The Pittsburgh Steelers are still in the market for a wide receiver since trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys earlier this offseason. Some believe that could come in the form of Miami Dolphins five-time All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, multiple teams around the league are still monitoring Hill’s potential availability.
Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski floated a Steelers-Dolphins mock trade scenario that would feature the Dolphins sending Hill to Pittsburgh in exchange for outside linebacker Nick Herbig as well as 2026 draft picks in the fourth and seventh rounds. The Steelers are projected to have 12 picks in 2026.
“By pairing Hill’s blazing speed with Metcalf’s physicality and Rodgers pulling the strings, the Steelers may have finally moved the needle and elevated their status as a legitimate contender,” Sobleski wrote.
“For the Dolphins, the return won’t be as good as adding a 28-year-old, five-time Pro Bowl safety. Miami can certainly demand more in a trade if the franchise is willing to eat a portion of Hill’s upcoming bonus and/or base salary. Though the organization has already stated publicly it doesn’t want to trade him, which hardens its negotiating stance.”

Hill, 31, is coming off his first sub-1,000-yard season since 2019. However, he is still one of the best wide receivers in the NFL when healthy, and he continued to prove that last year while recording 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns.
It seems unlikely that the Dolphins would even entertain moving on from Hill, but he seemed to be seeking a trade following Miami’s 8-9 campaign last season.
“I don’t even know, bruh,” Hill told Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald. “This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs, man, so, I mean, for me, I’ve just got to do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here, or wherever the case may be, I’m [about to] open that door for myself. …
“Yeah, I’m opening the door — I’m out, bruh. So, it was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I’ve got to do what’s best for my career and what’s best — because I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”
Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, walked back on his client’s comments just a few days later, though.
“At the end of the day, he’s committed to this Dolphins football team,” Rosenhaus said. “He had an excellent meeting with [GM] Chris Green and [head coach] Mike McDaniel. I believe that Tyreek is a great asset to the Dolphins and I think he’s the least guy that people should be worried about for this organization.”
However, if anything were to change, the Steelers are believed to be among the top contenders to land Hill.
A fifth-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016, Hill has recorded 798 catches for 11,098 yards and 82 touchdowns in his nine-year NFL career.
Despite the lack of depth, general manager Omar Khan has a great deal of confidence in the current crops of receivers.
“I feel really good about that receiver room,” Khan said during an interview on the 102.5 WDVE’s Morning Show on Tuesday. “In my opening press conference, I got a bunch of questions comparing it to last year. And to me, it’s not even close. I mean, you guys saw some of it this past weekend … Calvin (Austin) is banged up a little bit, but we’ll get him back. But Roman Wilson and Brandon Johnson, you saw the emergence of young guys like Ke’Shawn (Williams) and obviously we added DK (Metcalf). I feel good about this group. And when we traded for Jonnu [Smith], I loved his versatility.”
Calvin Austin III, who was expected to be the team’s No. 2 wide receiver, has been hampered with an abdominal muscle injury for a good portion of training camp. Veteran Scotty Miller is one receiver who has turned heads at training camp. He could be a reliable option for the club this season.
“I pride myself on, for one, just being able to do what I (am asked) to do,” Miller said. “Just the receiver position, just being able to play all the different spots, being able to play the slot, being able to go outside and beat bigger corners one on one, and then just being able to help on special teams as well. So I try to just be versatile and try to help the team any way I can.”
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin also gave Miller a ringing endorsement.
“He knows all the spots,” Tomlin said. “He’s highly conditioned. He’s very competitive. He’s a been-there, done-that guy, and so there’s a lot of value in his presence.”
