North Carolina Tar Heels coach Bill Belichick is not shy about referring to past greats when showing his new team how to get things done. Belichick revealed in a recent interview that he has shown highlight tapes of past New England Patriots players as a teaching tool for his current players.
The list of great NFL players that Belichick has coached is rather long. Patriots fans are familiar with some of these names, as they were key contributors to the organization’s dynasty. Belichick will be looking to create a new dynasty at the collegiate level with a Tar Heels team coming off a 6-6 season.

“In all honesty, we’ve shown a lot of Patriots film, and other great players in the NFL, too,” Belichick said, when appearing on the ACC Network. “But a lot of Patriots film on, ‘Here is what we want to do and here’s how to do it.’ Watch [Dont’a] Hightower, watch [Tom] Brady, watch [Rob] Gronkowski, watch [Julian] Edelman, watch Lawrence Taylor. Watch these guys do it because they were great at it. Stephon Gilmore, Ty Law, [Aqib] Talib—all of those guys.”
Those are all talented legends who would make for a great film study for any football team.
It’s still fun to see Belichick lean on his past, particularly his time with the Patriots, in his newest endeavor with the Tar Heels. Seeing him reminisce and stroll down memory lane—who wouldn’t want to be a fly on the wall during those film sessions?
