Packers corner Tyron Herring makes game-saving play in win over Colts
Green Bay Packers cornerback Tyron Herring delivered a big hit at the end of the game to keep the Colts out of the end zone. He talks about the moment.
Yes, it’s just the preseason. The win or loss doesn’t necessarily matter.
But Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen and many on social media would like to throw a challenge flag on the refs following what happened in the closing moments of the Green Bay Packers’ 23-19 win in the second preseason game that ended up being more entertaining and maybe a bit controversial than your typical exhibition contest.
It centers around the Colts‘ final offensive play when the officials reversed a catch that would have set up the Colts at the 1-yard line with seconds on the clock and a chance to win the game.
Facing fourth-and-10 from the Packers‘ 31-yard line, fourth-string quarterback Jason Bean delivered a dime to Jelani Woods over the defense near the goal line.
Woods was hit by Packers cornerback Tyron Herring, forcing the wide receiver to the sideline and to the ground as he approached the pylon.
The call was a catch on the field and the ball was at the 1-yard line momentarily with 13 seconds left. But the call was reversed upon replay review.
There wasn’t a lot of explanation, and the Packers offense came out on the field for a final kneel down.
Steichen had words for the refs afterward.
Steichen clearly wasn’t satisfied with whatever explanation the refs gave him.
“I like the way the guys battled, they finished the right way,” Steichen said in his postgame news conference. “Obviously, the situation at the end, that’s football sometimes.
“… Disappointing finish how it ended. That was a great catch.”
Social media also felt that way, including some on the Packers side wondering if Green Bay caught a break.
Packers vs Colts preseason game: Is it a catch?
I know it’s preseason but…
I’m really struggling with this…it’s a catch surely?!? Both feet in? Ball under control?
What am I missing? https://t.co/YSuF2LEBWq

Colts fans, that was a touchdown

It’s a preseason game so it is what it is, but if this was a regular season game, the refs and the booth would have screwed the Colts out of a walk-off TD.

Glad to know officials are already in regular season form. Absolute abomination of a call.
Buckle up, everyone.
