Trevor Lawrence breaks down Jaguars scrimmage, Day 15 training camp

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was honest when asked about the team’s scrimmage Thursday in Day 15 of training camp.`

Brandon Scherff played 10 seasons in the NFL after being the No. 5 pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Brandon Scherff provided one of the more unusual retirement announcements Aug. 14, ending a 10-year career that finished with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The five-time Pro Bowl guard who made the All-Pro team in 2020 is being inducted into the Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame on Aug. 29. In an interview on the Hawkeyes website, Scherff acknowledged that he was retiring from the NFL.

“It’s been something I could never dream of,” Scherff said in the interview. “Sometimes I would tell my wife that she has to pinch me, because I’m playing a kid’s game, and being able to do it as a job is pretty amazing. Now, having kids and being able to see them after games is absolutely wonderful. So I would say it’s a dream come true. And I will be forever grateful to have had that chance.”

Scherff won the Outland Trophy as college football’s best interior lineman in 2014 and was a first-team All-American, paving the way for Washington to take him with the No. 5 pick in the 2015 NFL draft. He played seven seasons there, earning Pro Bowl honors in five of those seasons and starting fewer than 11 games only once.

The guard was part of the Jaguars‘ 2022 free-agency spending spree, signing in Jacksonville on a three-year, $49.5 million contract. He started every game over his three years protecting Trevor Lawrence, but the team let him walk after the 2024 season as part of the makeover for new coach/GM combo Liam Coen and James Gladstone.

Scherff becomes the second member of the Jags’ 2024 offensive line to retire over the offseason. Center Mitch Morse, himself a 10-year veteran, announced his retirement in March.
