The TCU Horned Frogs are less than 20 days from kicking off the 2025 football season with a nonconference road matchup against the North Carolina Tar Heels and new head coach Bill Belichick. As we count down the days until kickoff, we’ll highlight a former (or current) Horned Frog whose jersey number represents the number of days left until the opener.
15 – Max Duggan (Quarterback – 2019-22)
The catalyst behind TCU’s magical run to the College Football Playoff National Championship during the 2022 season, Duggan finished second in Heisman Trophy voting after posting career highs in passing yards (3,698), passing touchdowns (32) and completion percentage (64 percent). Despite starting the season as the No. 2 quarterback, Duggan took over after starter Chandler Morris injured his knee during TCU’s opener against Colorado. The former four-star recruit from Council Bluffs, Iowa never looked back, guiding the Horned Frogs to the Big 12 title game and a top-4 ranking in the CFP Poll.
Duggan racked up several honors as a senior, winning the Davey O’Brien Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. Additionally, Duggan received All-American honors from three national media outlets and was named both the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and a First-Team All-Big 12 quarterback. A finalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award and a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, Duggan concluded his four-year TCU career with over 11,000 total yards on offense, throwing for 9,618 yards and 73 touchdowns while rushing for 1,856 yards and 28 touchdowns.
Duggan participated in the 2023 NFL Combine and was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Duggan spent one year with the Chargers before being waived and then signing with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the UFL in late 2024. During the 2025 season, Duggan played in eight games and made five starts, posting a 5-0 record with four passing touchdowns and five rushing touchdowns.
