Best and worst PFF grades from Panthers' preseason loss to Texans

The early reviews of the Carolina Panthers‘ 20-3 defeat to the Houston Texans weren’t great . . . obviously. But did the film buffs catch any worthwhile performances upon further inspection?

Here are the team’s best and worst grades from Saturday’s preseason loss . . .

Best of the offense

1. WR Brycen Tremayne: 77.0

2. C Jarrett Kingston: 69.2

3. RT Yosh Nijman: 68.6

4. LT Brady Christensen: 66.4

5. RB Emani Bailey: 66.3

Tremayne recorded a team-high 46 receiving yards on three grabs. He led all pass catchers with 15.3 yards per reception and his 23-yard catch in the third quarter was the longest in the entire game.

Kingston, who played each of his 32 snaps at center, allowed zero pressures in 18 chances. Nijman also gave up zero pressures over his 32 snaps at right tackle and six at left tackle.

Worst of the offense

34. QB Andy Dalton: 41.0

35. LG Cade Mays: 38.4

36. WR Jacolby George: 37.2

37. QB Jack Plummer: 34.9

38. TE Ja’Tavion Sanders: 32.0

Before leaving the contest with a right elbow injury, Dalton completed two of his four passing attempts for 22 yards. Plummer, who came on in early relief, connected on 10 of his 14 throws for 83 yards and two interceptions.

Sanders’ drop on a third-and-8 put an end to Carolina’s first offensive possession.

Best of the defense

1. ILB Jon Rhattigan: 90.0

2. ILB Trevin Wallace: 83.7

3. ILB Bam Martin-Scott: 79.5

4. OLB J.J. Weaver: 72.3

5. S Lathan Ransom: 71.0

Rhattigan notched team-highs in pressures (three) and coverage grade (83.5). Wallace was also good in coverage, earning an 80.1 mark.

Ransom tallied two pressures of his own, and allowed one catch for seven yards on two targets.

Worst of the defense

33. S Jack Henderson: 47.9

33. OLB Boogie Basham: 47.9

35. NT Shy Tuttle: 47.4

36. OLB Thomas Incoom: 44.1

37. DE A’Shawn Robinson: 29.5

Basham and Incoom did combine for five pressures, but the latter’s 32.3 coverage grade wound up as a team-low.
