One of the biggest plays for the Tennessee Titans in their 23-20 preseason victory over the Atlanta Falcons was Gunnar Helm’s 25-yard touchdown reception.

Knocked down by draft boards due to a lack of elite measurables and traits, many overlooked his high-level production at Texas, strong hands, and route-running abilities that made him a consistent weapon for the Longhorns.

After struggling during the pre-draft process, the Titans grabbed Helm in the fourth round of the draft, and at this point couldn’t be happier with their pick. He has been a pleasant surprise during training camp, and the rookie tight end is making a strong case to take on an expanded role early in the 2025 season.

After the game, Helm spoke with the media about the touchdown, how he is keeping the ball from his first NFL touchdown, and where he’s improved since being drafted.

“I was brought here to do a job, brought here for a reason,” he said. “And, it’s to make plays like that. That’s kinda my wheelhouse, it’s a play I have to make.”

It was a great play and an even better catch upon closer inspection, with Helm fighting through two defenders and making the contested catch.

But it is what happened after the interview was published on social media that pulls back the cover and shows a different side of life in the league. Helm’s grandfather took to X and shared his thoughts on Gunnar and his play.

If Helm can continue to improve and develop into a complete tight end, the Titans could have found themselves a steal in the fourth round. He is trending in that direction and has the look of a complementary weapon for Cam Ward moving forward.
