The preseason rolls on today as the New Orleans Saints will face the Jacksonville Jaguars in their second game, but the first at home. The Saints are switching things up as the quarterback battle heats up, with rookie Tyler Shough getting the start in this one. Spencer Rattler will get plenty of chances as well, but he will have to wait a little longer this week.
We’ll be bringing you live updates, scores, and highlights from the game. Follow along:

Spencer Rattler throws a red-zone interception
Q4, 4:42: Rattler was leading a nice drive with some sharp conversions down the field, but he telegraphed a slant route in scoring position and was picked off. Jaguars defensive back Keni-H Nelson took off on the return but was stopped at Jacksonville’s 37-yard line.
Charlie Smyth scores another Saints field goal
Q3, 0:17: Spencer Rattler connected on five consecutive passes to get the Saints downfield, but the drive fizzled out just outside the Jacksonville red zone. Charlie Smyth got to try another field goal, this time from 40 yards, to cut into the deficit. Jaguars 17, Saints 9.
Mason Tipton, Spencer Rattler connect on a 25-yard gainCharlie Smyth scores the Saints’ next field goal
Q3, 11:07: Spencer Rattler couldn’t find Mason Tipton on a deep shot downfield, but a coverage penalty on the Jaguars set up the Saints offense deep in Jacksonville territory anyway. Rattler’s next throws (to Cedrick Wilson and Dante Pettis) fell incomplete, and Smyth came in to cut into the Jags’ lead. Score: Jaguars 17, Saints 6
Spencer Rattler takes over for Tyler Shough at QB
The Saints switched quarterbacks in the second half, giving Rattler the opportunity to lead the second-string offense.
Jaguars RB Bhayshul Tuten extends Jacksonville’s lead
Q2, 3:21: Tuten had to grind out the yards, and he did just that with three consecutive 3-yard gains once the Jaguars got inside New Orleans’ 10-yard line. The last one punched into the end zone. Both teams are playing backups here but you’d like to see the Saints defensive line hold up under pressure.
Blake Grupe gets the Saints on the board
Q2, 7:25: Chris Olave had an uncharacteristic drop that would have converted a first down, but Grupe went in and nailed a 51-yard field goal to cut into Jacksonville’s lead. Grupe has run away with the kicking battle with Charlie Smyth this summer, and kicks like this should give the coaches confidence he’s the right guy for the job.
Treyton Welch comes through a big-time catch
Q2, 12:47: Welch, the tight end, somehow managed to fight through contact with a linebacker draped all over him to get both hands on this 28-yard reception. He was a little slow coming up off the ground after he and the defender went down in a heap, but it didn’t take Welch long to get back in the game. These are the plays guys like Welch need to make the make the team. Shough placed the ball really well, too.
Jaguars take the lead with a Trevor Lawrence TD pass
Q1, 2:33: Lawrence threw a short pass to wide receiver Parker Washington, who shook off a tackle by linebacker D’Marco Jackson and dove past rookie linebacker Danny Stutsman for the score. The Saints pass defense didn’t really challenge him in the first quarter, giving up too many completions (8) to too many receivers (5).
Tyler Shough’s first drive ends with punt
Q1, 6:52: That was disappointing. Shough took a sack on first down and was fouled for intentional grounding on second down, with only a draw play for Kendre Miller getting the punter out of New Orleans’ own end zone. The protection needs to do a better job keeping him clean, but Shough needs to show more decisiveness and throw the football, too.
Jaguars’ first drive ends with a Saints takeaway
Q1, 9:44: We’ll take it. Trevor Lawrence slipped and fell while trying to hand off the ball, which bounced away from him. Rookie third-round draft pick Vernon Broughton was in the right place at the right time to jump on the loose football for a fumble recovery. That gave Tyler Shough and the Saints offense their first start at their own 11-yard line.

Two starters are dealing with injuries that are expected to sideline them on Sunday and likely put them in doubt for Week 1’s kickoff game. Left guard Trevor Penning is managing a moderate turf toe injury, while cornerback Alontae Taylor tweaked a groin muscle.
