Only two weeks remain until Week 1, which is going to be awesome. We’ll get several big-time games in Week 1, including the incredibly hyped-up contest between No. 1 Texas and No. 3 Ohio State. It’s a rematch of last season’s College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Cotton Bowl and a potential preview of this year’s national championship game.
But who will really be the country’s 25 best teams in 2025?
One computer model has decided to project the country’s top teams for the fall. Here’s how things shake out.

According to the rankings system Kelley Ford, which uses a ratings system to project who will be the top teams in the country moving forward, Texas is the right choice at No. 1 overall this year.
Here’s the model’s top 25:
Fans still aren’t buying Penn State, though
While Penn State is No. 2 in the polls and No. 2 in the projective models, fans still aren’t buying Penn State, mainly due to one reason: James Franklin.
Is Franklin the guy that can lead a school to a national title?

“The choke artist known as James Franklin?” one fan wrote.
“Choke does not fully describe his coaching. I’ve been a PSU fan for 70 years. I believe there’s a psychiatric term for continuing to root for a team that never delivers…. Nittanyitis. The only cure-follow lacrosse,” one fan added.
“Y’all can put your money on James Franklin if you like. That man can’t and doesn’t win big games. I’ll take the field he probably will choke away the Big Ten!” one fan added.

“James Franklin is a choke artist. They’re way over ranked,” one fan added.
The analysts, meanwhile, disagree
While the college football world fan base isn’t buying James Franklin, the analysts disagree.
Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt has Penn State as his No. 1 team. He’s fully buying into the hype this year.
“My number one team in the country, as it was to end the spring, is going to be Penn State,” Klatt stated.
“I’m huge on blueprints, folks. You know this. And, in the last two years, we have seen the blueprint that goes out there and wins the national championship,” explained Klatt. “That is an experienced team with an experienced quarterback with a lot of guys that come back. They spurn the NFL. They come back, there’s a chip on their shoulder. There’s a tough loss in their rearview mirror. And they go out there, they right the ship, and they get it done. That’s Penn State.”
