Since leaving the American Athletic Conference (AAC) in 2019, the UConn Football team has taken on a wide range of opponents from several different conferences each year, competing as one of only three FBS independent teams in the NCAA. Facing teams like Michigan, Tennessee, and Clemson in the past, the Huskies have been battle-tested year in and year out.

After winning nine games last season for only the third time ever in program history, expectations for the defending Fenway Bowl Champions are as high as ever. Schedule-wise, the Huskies were dealt an extremely winnable slate, featuring several Power Four matchups with a nice mix of Group of Five and FCS opponents.

GAME BY GAME PREDICTIONS

Now that we’ve broken down the schedule by conference, here’s a quick look at my game-by-game predictions.

Prediction: Win

Outlook: Despite making an FCS playoff run in 2024, the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut stand virtually no chance against their in-state rivals. The last time the Huskies welcomed the Blue Devils to the Rent was in 2022, marked by a 28-3 triumph of CCSU for Jim Mora’s first victory as head coach.

Prediction: Loss

Outlook: Going into his second year, head coach Fran Brown has developed a monster in the ACC. With an extremely talented quarterback room, headed by Notre Dame transfer Steve Angeli and LSU transfer Rickie Collins, the Orange are poised for another dominant season. Though they’ll certainly remain competitive, it’s likely the Huskies will fall to the Orange in week two.

Prediction: Win

Outlook: 2025 marks Delaware’s inaugural season competing at the FBS level. Having won six FCS national titles and produced loads of NFL talent, Delaware has certainly made a name for themselves in the CAA and national level. However, growing pains are destined for the Fightin’ Blue Hens as they transition to a higher level of competition. Ultimately, the Huskies will soundly defeat the Hens on the road.

Prediction: Win

Outlook: UConn compiled an impressive 6–1 record at home last season. Welcoming a weak Ball State team, who finished 3–9 in 2024, to Rentschler Field poses another cakewalk for the experienced Huskies as they improve to 3–1 on the season.

Prediction: Win

Outlook: In this week five away matchup, the Huskies take on a familiar face: former UConn starting quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson. Roberson, who transferred from Kansas State, is poised to take over at signal caller. With his experience at several Power Four schools, Roberson is indeed a good addition to a highly talented Bulls roster, which posted a 9-4 record last season with a win in the 2024 Bahamas Bowl. Still, the Huskies should be able grind out a hard-fought victory in Buffalo, anchored by strong offensive line play and stout defense.

Week Six versus FIU

Prediction: Win

Outlook: FIU has endured tough times as a program, recording a 4-8 record in each of its last three seasons under head coach Mike MacIntyre. With that being said, a week six home win over the Panthers looks to be in the cards for UConn, improving to 5-1 on the season.

Week Seven – BYE WEEK

Prediction: Loss

Outlook: Established head coach Bill O’Brien made a strong impression in his first year at the helm of Boston College. The Eagles went 7-6 last season in the ever-so competitive ACC, losing games narrowly to powerhouses like SMU, Miami and Missouri. In addition, O’Brien named Alabama transfer Dylan Lonergan as the starting quarterback, who has tremendous upside and fantastic arm talent. This game will be a tough one for the Huskies, as they drop their second game of the season.

Week Nine at Rice

Prediction: Win

Outlook: Like others on this schedule, Rice has experienced its fair share of struggles in recent memory. Having hired first-year head coach Scott Abel, the Owls are optimistic for a fresh start after coming off a disappointing 4-8 season in 2024. UConn is 2-0 over Rice in the past two seasons, and it looks to be much of the same as the Huskies march down to Texas and become bowl-eligible for the third time in the Jim Mora era.

Week 10 versus UAB

Prediction: Win

Outlook: Trent Dilfer is 7-17 in his two years as head coach for UAB, a program still searching for consistency in the AAC. Needless to say, the Huskies will pummel the Dragons in front of a rowdy Rentschler crowd, adding another decisive win to their repertoire in the second half of the season.

Week 11 versus Duke

Prediction: Win

Outlook: UConn was minutes away from a major upset last season, leading Duke 21–17 at halftime. Although the Blue Devils would go on to get the best of UConn in the fourth quarter, the loss left a sour taste in the Huskies’ mouths, as a victory would have marked one of the best program wins in recent memory. That being said, the Huskies have all the tools necessary to take down head coach Manny Diaz’s Blue Devils in 2025. With depth at nearly every offensive position, UConn is in a great position to win and secure a Jim Mora career victory.

Prediction: Win

Outlook: The Air Force’s triple option offense is the ultimate equalizer, giving opposing defenses a headache no matter how talented they are. UConn defensive coordinator Matt Brock’s defense is also a big question mark, having to replace several big names like Jayden McDonald and Tui Faumuina-Brown. However, with disciplined defensive line play and a little bit of Senior Day magic, the possibility of a victory should be without question in week 12.

Prediction: Win

Outlook: What a nice way to close out the regular season. Playing yet another team going through program rehabilitation, the Huskies are heavy favorites in this matchup, having the ability to comfortably take down the Florida Atlantic Owls and win 10 games for only the second time in program history.

OVERALL RECORD: 10-2 with a solid bowl appearance to wrap up the 2025 college football season.
