The Eagles added quality depth and competition to the wide receiver room on Monday, officially acquiring John Metchie III and a 2026 sixth-round pick from the Houston Texans, sending to Houston tight end Harrison Bryant and a fifth-round draft pick in 2026. The draft picks involved were each team’s original picks in the 2026 NFL Draft that were previously exchanged in the Chauncey Gardner-Johnson trade earlier this offseason.

Metchie, a second-round draft pick in 2022 by the Texans (44th overall), missed his entire rookie season after being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). He has 40 receptions for 412 yards and one touchdown in 29 games.

In the 2024 season, Metchie had 24 receptions for 254 yards and a touchdown in 13 games.

Metchie will wear No. 80 when he takes the practice field for the first time as an Eagle on Tuesday.
