LSU football player helps mom stuck on the side of road

  • August 19, 2025

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Baton Rouge roads can be a battle. Cayla Abad knows this all too well after her tire blew out.

“I was able to make it onto the shoulder, but, like I said, it’s a really busy area. There are cars traveling very close to us,” said Abad.

Abad was on Burbank between Lee and Bluebonnet with her three kids all under the age of six, but they weren’t alone on the sidelines for long.

“A gentleman pulled over and asked if he could help and that ended up being Tamarcus Cooley,” explained Abad.

It was that Tamarcus Cooley who transferred to the LSU football team in January. The safety is known for his tackles and interceptions. He played defense off the field for a mother and her young children.

Adad explained, “He said I was actually on the phone with my mom when I spotted you and I told my mom I had to stop to help because if it were her on the side of the road, that I would want somebody to stop and help her.”

They took pictures once the tire was changed. Abad posted them to social media. It is getting thousands of likes and shares.

“His response was I didn’t expect that. I didn’t do it to go viral. I did it with you guys’ safety in mind which just shows how genuine he is and how sincere he is,” said Abad.

Now, an act of kindness from a gentle giant is something this family will never forget.
