Wide receiver Matthew Golden was picked 23rd in the 2025 NFL Draft, but he’ll now be wearing No. 22 for the Green Bay Packers.

It was announced April 25 on ABC, with Desmond Howard on set, via social media that Golden would wear Howard’s former No. 81.

But Golden has opted for the double deuces, according to another Packers social media post April 26 and confirmed on the Packers roster page.

Golden, wore No. 2 at both the University of Houston and the University of Texas, possesses elite speed. That led one commenter to compare him to a Hall of Fame receiver who also wore 22 and was fleet of foot: “Bullet” Bob Hayes of the Dallas Cowboys.

Hayes won two sprint gold medals in the 1964 Olympics before playing 11 years in the NFL for Dallas. He’s the only athlete to win a gold medal and a Super Bowl.
