Here’s a timely signing for Sean Payton’s Denver Broncos. Former New Orleans Saints fullback Adam Prentice returned to Denver ahead of this week’s preseason game at the Caesars Superdome, the team announced Sunday.

While he’s best known for his time in New Orleans, where Prentice appeared in 48 games over the last four years, his pro career actually started with the Broncos. Denver signed him as a rookie free agent out of South Carolina; before transferring to join the Gamecocks for his senior year, he played college football at Colorado State.

So he’s someone Payton knows well. Prentice arrives as depth behind Michael Burton, another former Saints fullback who is nursing a hamstring issue, and converted tight end Nate Adkins, who is recovering from ankle surgery. It’s hardly a surprise that Prentice ends up with Payton in Denver. Former Saints ranging from players to coaches, scouts, and front office personnel have followed Payton to Colorado in the years since he stepped down as head coach. Prentice is just the latest example.
